Why this eclipse is special

On 2 August 2027 the Moon's shadow crosses the Strait of Gibraltar, North Africa, Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula. Near Luxor totality lasts more than six minutes, one of the longest total eclipses visible from land this century.

Early August is the dry season along most of the path, so the odds of clear skies are good, especially in Egypt and Tunisia. The tables show how often each city had clear early-August days between 2005 and 2025.

Choosing a spot

Totality lasts longest near the centre line, so a short drive can add a minute or more. Balance totality, clear-sky odds and heat: southern Spain and Tunisia are milder, Egypt has the longest totality and clearest skies but very high temperatures. Book early — accommodation along the path is already in demand.

Never look at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2), except during totality itself. Eye safety guide
