Terms of use and disclaimer

Please read this before you plan a trip or a night out around our forecasts.

Forecasts are probabilities

The aurora cannot be predicted with certainty. Our chances, scores and calendars combine public scientific data with our own models; they can change quickly and can be wrong. Nothing on this site is a promise that you will see the aurora.

Your safety comes first

Night trips in winter and in remote places carry real risks: extreme cold, ice, snow, darkness, wildlife and traffic. Dress for the conditions, tell someone where you go, never stop on a road to watch the sky, respect closures and avalanche warnings, and follow local authorities. You act at your own risk.

Private land and protected areas

Viewing spots we mention are suggestions. Respect private property, local rules, the right of public access where it exists, and quiet hours. Access rights usually cover people on foot, not parking or camping with vehicles.

"I see it" reports

Reports are anonymous and are shown unedited. Do not send false or automated reports; we filter implausible ones and may remove reports or block abuse.

Liability

We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence. Otherwise we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of the forecasts, for travel costs, or for the availability of the site, as far as the law allows.

Use of our content

You may link to any page and quote short passages with a link to the source. Copying pages, data or images in bulk, or automated scraping, needs our written permission. Data from third parties stays under their licences.

Partner links

Some pages may contain clearly marked partner links. If you book through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Partners never influence forecasts or rankings.
